This report presents the findings of the 2025 State Ranking Mapping Assessment of the CSO Regulatory Environment in Nigeria, building on earlier baseline and update exercises conducted in previous years. The assessment provides a comparative analysis of the enabling or restrictive nature of civic space at the state level and identifies areas where reforms are needed to strengthen the operational environment for civil society.
With support from the Open Society Foundations (OSF), Global Rights and NULAI Nigeria are pursuing strategic litigation challenging selected provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020. The case focuses on whether specific regulatory powers granted to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) are consistent with constitutional guarantees on freedom of association, fair hearing, and civic space protections.
