Human Security & Access to Remedies

Justice and the rule of law are only meaningful when everyone can access them. Where the rule of law is weak or perceived to be failing, and where political, legal, economic, and institutional barriers systematically disadvantage certain populations, access to justice and effective remedies cannot be taken for granted.

Through our Human Security and Access to Remedies Program, Global Rights advances a vision of justice, dignity, and security for all. We strengthen access to justice and remedy, promote accountable and inclusive institutions, and support communities to build the resilience needed to prevent, withstand, and recover from human rights violations and insecurity. Our approach recognizes that human security is inseparable from people’s ability to exercise their rights, participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives, and obtain effective redress when those rights are violated.

The program is anchored in SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, while contributing to SDGs 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, and 11—Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, Reduced Inequalities, and Sustainable Cities and Communities.
