In Nigeria, displacement is more than a humanitarian crisis. It is a gender emergency.

As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) 2025, Global Rights conducted a field survey across 10 displacement camps in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, and the FCT, revealing a disturbing reality: sexual violence is not just present, it is predictable. From survival sex to intimate partner abuse, displaced women and girls are facing a silent epidemic, worsened by the absence of essential services, protection, and justice.

With over 3 million Nigerians displaced, and women and girls making up the most vulnerable, this report shines a spotlight on the harrowing conditions that make violence almost inevitable. Nearly 1 in 5 displaced women globally experience sexual violence, yet in Nigeria, the true figure may be far higher—masked by silence, stigma, and systemic neglect.

This isn’t just a call to awareness. It’s a call to action, one rooted in survivor voices, grounded in data, and urgent in its demands.
